Himeji-jo, Japan
Himeji-jo (Himeji Castle) is located on Honshu (the main island of Japan) it is also named Hakuro-jo (“White Egret Castle”) amd Shirasagi-jo (“White Heron Castle“) thanks
to the white outer walls and the roof tops that looks a bit like a bird
that’s spreading it’s wings just before it takes off.
The Castle’s construction began in 1333 AD but the structure we see today was actually built around the 17’s century. This place is one of the first UNESCO World Heritage Sites to be recognized by the UN in Japan. This Castle is probably the only major example of traditional wood & stone Japanese castles that was not damaged by attacks or during the devastating bombings of World War II.
